Getting Started !!!

All the daddies you can't start cooking a meal without all the ingredients and equipment.  The first step is where to source for those ?  Luckily, in Singapore everything is just so easy, simple and convenient.  All within distances from your house you can get all those already so cheer up no need to frown of thinking how to start  :)

Cooking Equipment
Right that the places you can get all your rice cooker, frying pan, wok, pot, oven ( microwave and the traditional ) and so on.

For the cooking utensils, there are 3 types in the market now, the traditional stainless steel, the non-stick type and the induction cooking type.  Price wise, the induction cooking type is more expensive than the other 2.  As the name suggested, it uses electricity to cook ( prepare to pay higher electricity bill ) as compared with the traditional gas.  The advantage is induction cooking is faster as the utensils tend to get heated up faster.  Personally, I have not tried induction cooking utensils ( you need an induction hob ) so the result from using that to cook a meal I can't commend on it.  The non-stick type of utensils as the name suggested, anything you put in to fry will not get stick to the frying pan or wok and that make at the end of the day cleaning easier but compared to the traditional stainless steel type, the utensils tend to get heated up slower.  In traditional Chinese cooking, the hotter the wok/frying pan, the easier to cook the food.  Also note that, if the non-sticky coating from the non-stick utensils come off, it is time to change the utensils if not might get food poison if continues using of it.  Lastly, the traditional stainless steel type, reliable, lasting and get heated up faster but if not careful can get all your food stick to the utensils after cooking and you will have hard time trying to scrub it off.  Hey don't frown, use of baking soda can get that scrubbing done.  So the choice is yours between traditional stainless steel utensils, non-stick utensils or induction cooking utensils.

Can't cook something without anything right ? Yes, ingredients that the one you need.  Vegetables, meats, fish, rice, sugar, salt, noodles, etc etc.  Those things are easy to buy and should have no problem with all the daddies.  Can get from

Something need to stress on the Traditional Wet Market.  In general things that you buy from there are fresher as compared with those from supermarket.  In additional there is advantage as in if you know those stall owners well enough, you can bargain for the purchase.  Some of those supermarkets or hypermarkets if you bring your own environmental friendly grocery bag along, they rebate you 10cents on your purchase.  Hey why not ? Go Green and Save some money.
